Where Mississippi stands

The Ibogaine Drug Development Clinical Trial Act (HB 314, Rep. Sam Creekmore) directs the State Department of Health to select a consortium of a drug developer, a state university and a hospital, with matching funds required. The House passed it 111-1. Governor approved 2026-03-26. A legislative budget summary lists $5 million tied to UMMC. No consortium selection found.

The state has appropriated money for ibogaine research or trials.

Funding: $5,000,000. HB 314 itself carries no appropriation. In the 2026 session the Legislature approved nearly $60 million of opioid settlement spending, including $5 million for ibogaine clinical trials from the portion left to legislative discretion. A legislative budget summary ties the $5 million to UMMC. The Department of Health may not disburse funds until the consortium has matching money from sources other than the state.

For Mississippi residents: a whole root ceremony on Kauaʻi

Vital Kauaʻi is a legally established church on Kauaʻi’s North Shore. Members from Mississippi join a thirteen-week journey: six weeks of preparation from home, one week on the island with two held nights with the whole root in ceremony, and six weeks of integration after. Guides, a medical provider, somatic practitioners and integration coaches walk with each member through all of it.

Preparation, from Mississippi

A medical consultation and health review, somatic and nervous-system preparation, and weekly guidance through the member portal. All of it happens from home, on Zoom, before travel.

Ceremony, on Kauaʻi

Two nights with the whole root in nature, one-on-one or in a container of up to three, with experienced guides and the medical provider present overnight. An EKG on-island comes first.

Integration, back in Mississippi

Six weekly one-on-one calls with an integration coach, plus somatic sessions, so what the root shows you becomes how you live, lead and create at home.
