Where Colorado stands

HB26-1325 adds ibogaine to Colorado's natural medicine framework (built on the 2022 Natural Medicine Health Act) with a Behavioral Health Administration pilot of up to five research sites. It is funded by gifts and grants through the Ibogaine Research Pilot Program Cash Fund rather than taxpayer money. Gov. Polis signed it June 4, 2026, and the act took effect August 12, 2026. The pilot itself starts once the BHA receives $150,000 in gifts, grants or equal in-kind value before January 1, 2028; if that threshold is never reached, the money returns to those who gave it.

A law touching ibogaine or iboga is on the books.

Funding: No taxpayer appropriation. The pilot program is contingent on the Behavioral Health Administration receiving at least $150,000 in gifts, grants or an equivalent in-kind value before January 1, 2028, deposited in the Ibogaine Research Pilot Program Cash Fund, which may pay for administration and grants to pilot sites.

Who is involved

For Colorado residents: a whole root ceremony on Kauaʻi

Vital Kauaʻi is a legally established church on Kauaʻi’s North Shore. Members from Colorado join a thirteen-week journey: six weeks of preparation from home, one week on the island with two held nights with the whole root in ceremony, and six weeks of integration after. Guides, a medical provider, somatic practitioners and integration coaches walk with each member through all of it.

Preparation, from Colorado

A medical consultation and health review, somatic and nervous-system preparation, and weekly guidance through the member portal. All of it happens from home, on Zoom, before travel.

Ceremony, on Kauaʻi

Two nights with the whole root in nature, one-on-one or in a container of up to three, with experienced guides and the medical provider present overnight. An EKG on-island comes first.

Integration, back in Colorado

Six weekly one-on-one calls with an integration coach, plus somatic sessions, so what the root shows you becomes how you live, lead and create at home.

How this tracker is kept

  • Each state is checked against legislature records, agency releases and published reporting, and carries the date it was last checked. Every development links to its source.
  • “No known activity” means the state was checked on the date shown and no ibogaine-specific law, bill, funding or task force was found.
  • The directory lists organizations and public offices with their own websites. Listing points readers to them and does not endorse them.
  • This tracker is offered for education and does not constitute legal or medical advice. Ibogaine and iboga remain Schedule I substances under federal law. See the medical disclaimer.
