Where Kentucky stands
SB 77 (Sen. Donald Douglas), enacted as 2026 Ky. Acts ch. 158, creates an ibogaine research and intellectual property fund, administered by the Department of Agriculture, for a public-private partnership with a drug developer. The governor vetoed it on 2026-04-13. The legislature overrode the veto, and the bill was delivered to the Secretary of State on 2026-04-14. The law took effect 2026-07-15 (KRS 218A.511 to 218A.519). A Senate committee substitute removed the proposed $21 million-a-year opioid-abatement appropriation, so the fund currently has no state money. A contracted drug developer reports quarterly on trial progress and spending, and the department must report to the Legislative Research Commission by December 1 each year.
A law touching ibogaine or iboga is on the books.
Funding: The original filing proposed $21 million from the opioid abatement trust fund in each of FY2026-27 and FY2027-28. Senate Committee Substitute 1 removed that appropriation, and the sponsor said appropriations would be considered later. No appropriation has been made. Partners must match any state investment with private funding.

How this tracker is kept
- Each state is checked against legislature records, agency releases and published reporting, and carries the date it was last checked. Every development links to its source.
- “No known activity” means the state was checked on the date shown and no ibogaine-specific law, bill, funding or task force was found.
- The directory lists organizations and public offices with their own websites. Listing points readers to them and does not endorse them.
