The 2024 supplemental budget provided $250,000 to the UW Center for Novel Therapeutics in Addiction Psychiatry for an initial ibogaine-assisted therapy study, billed as the first state-funded ibogaine research. SB 5204 (Salomon, Trudeau, Nobles) proposed a three-year UW study and was heard 2025-02-06. The enacted 2025-27 operating budget (ESSB 5167, Chapter 424, Laws of 2025) then provided $10,000 for a UW prospective, randomized cohort study, running 2025-07-01 to 2027-06-30, comparing ibogaine-assisted therapy at a licensed clinic in North America with standard U.S. opioid use disorder treatment. The governor's partial veto left that proviso intact, and the 2026 supplemental budget (ESSB 5998) carried it forward.

2026 supplemental budget keeps the ibogaine study proviso
The 2026 supplemental operating budget (ESSB 5998, Chapter 268, Laws of 2026, effective 2026-04-01) amends the University of Washington section and carries the $10,000 ibogaine cohort-study proviso forward unchanged; that section was outside the governor's partial-veto items.

2025-27 budget funds a UW ibogaine cohort study
The enacted 2025-27 operating budget (ESSB 5167, Chapter 424, Laws of 2025) provides $10,000 from the workforce education investment account for the University of Washington to run a prospective, randomized cohort study from 2025-07-01 to 2027-06-30 comparing ibogaine-assisted therapy at a licensed clinic in North America, followed by structured therapeutic support, with standard U.S. opioid use disorder treatment. The university may add private philanthropic funding. The governor's partial veto of the UW section struck subsection 606(64) and left the ibogaine subsection 606(62) in law.

A whole root ceremony, held in nature on Kauaʻi.
Most providers hand you a single isolated compound in a medical room. We work with the whole root, the way it has been held for millennia, in a sanctuary on Kauaʻi’s North Shore where the land itself holds you. Private journeys and containers of up to three members.
The root is a powerful and intelligent plant ally, and the science is catching up to it: in Stanford’s 2024 study, a single session eased veterans’ anxiety and depression and sharpened their thinking. Leaders and creators come for the same reasons: clarity, a sharper mind, open creativity, and performance that holds.

Thirteen weeks.Two nights in ceremony.
Six weeks of preparation from home in Washington. One week on Kauaʻi, with two held nights with the root. Six weeks of integration back home, so what the root shows you becomes how you live, lead and create.
Preparation
A personal medical consultation and health review with our medical provider. Somatic and nervous-system preparation. Weekly guidance through the member portal, so you arrive clear, steady and ready to receive.
Ceremony
An EKG on-island first. Then two fully held nights with the root, one-on-one or in a container of up to three, with experienced guides and our medical provider present overnight. Days of on-island integration between and after.
Integration
Six weekly one-on-one calls with your integration coach, plus somatic sessions, so the opening holds in your work, your relationships and your body.
What medicineis beginning to confirm.
Stanford University, the landmark study
In 2024, Stanford published the first controlled clinical study of the root’s primary alkaloid: thirty U.S. Special Operations veterans, one session each. One month on, PTSD, depression and anxiety had fallen by the figures above, disability scores went from 30.2 to 5.1, the level of no disability, and suicidal thinking fell from 47% of the group to 7%. Concentration, memory and processing improved. There were no heart problems. A 2026 follow-up with MRI found their brains measured younger after the session than before.

What people askbefore they call.
Is iboga legal in Washington?
Iboga and ibogaine remain Schedule I under federal law. Washington funds University of Washington ibogaine research: $250,000 in the 2024 supplemental budget and a $10,000 randomized cohort study proviso in the 2025-27 budget, kept in the 2026 supplemental. Vital Kauaʻi holds its ceremonies on Kauaʻi within a protected religious context as a legally established church, and welcomes Washington residents. We are glad to speak with you directly about our legal structure.
How do Washington residents take part?
The journey is thirteen weeks. Six weeks of preparation happen from home in Washington: a medical consultation, somatic and nervous-system preparation, and weekly guidance through the member portal. Then one week on Kauaʻi, with two nights in ceremony. Then six weeks of integration back home, with weekly one-on-one calls.
Why the whole root instead of a clinic's isolated compound?
Most providers use a single isolated alkaloid. We work with the whole root, honoring the ancient wisdom in which this plant has been used for millennia, titrated slowly and in continuous dialogue with your body. The full plant carries an intelligence that no single compound can replicate.
Is it safe?
The root has an excellent safety record. The rare serious risks are primarily cardiac, and are most closely associated with the isolated and concentrated alkaloid. We seek to meet the clinical standard of care wherever we can: a medical consultation and health review with our medical provider and medical clearance before ceremony, an EKG on-island before your first ceremony, and our medical provider present overnight at every ceremony.
Who is this for?
Leaders, creators, and people already on a spiritual path who are ready to live their fullest expression, with more clarity, freedom, capacity, and purpose. We screen carefully and honestly. If it is right for you, we will know together.
What does the discovery call look like?
Thirty minutes on Zoom with us. We want to understand what brings you here, what you are carrying, your health history, and what support will serve you best. This is how we begin to know you, so that the container we hold for you is built for who you actually are.
