Where Louisiana standson iboga, today.

SB 43 (Sen. Pat McMath), now Act 956 of 2026, creates a Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy Initiative in the Department of Health's Office of Behavioral Health. The initiative identifies academic health centers studying ibogaine, MDMA, psilocybin and related compounds for opioid use disorder, co-occurring substance use disorders and treatment-resistant neurological or mental health conditions, and designates a state point of contact to coordinate with federal agencies and other states. An academic health center may form a consortium with a drug developer to run ibogaine drug-development trials and may partner with another state's consortium; the state keeps a royalty of at least 2.5 percent of net sales on resulting products. Centers coordinate with parishes using opioid settlement funds to enroll eligible residents, report to the department by January 1 each year, and the department reports to the legislature by March 1 each year. The bill passed the Senate 37-0 and the House 97-0 in May 2026, became law without the governor's signature on 2026-06-23, and took effect 2026-08-01.

Funding. Act 956 carries no appropriation. Academic health centers coordinate with parishes using opioid settlement funds to enroll eligible residents, the department may accept federal funds, gifts and grants for the initiative, and the department is to encourage using settlement money as a match for federal or other outside funding.

The whole root

A whole root ceremony, held in nature on Kauaʻi.

Most providers hand you a single isolated compound in a medical room. We work with the whole root, the way it has been held for millennia, in a sanctuary on Kauaʻi’s North Shore where the land itself holds you. Private journeys and containers of up to three members.

The root is a powerful and intelligent plant ally, and the science is catching up to it: in Stanford’s 2024 study, a single session eased veterans’ anxiety and depression and sharpened their thinking. Leaders and creators come for the same reasons: clarity, a sharper mind, open creativity, and performance that holds.

Stanford University, the landmark study

In 2024, Stanford published the first controlled clinical study of the root’s primary alkaloid: thirty U.S. Special Operations veterans, one session each. One month on, PTSD, depression and anxiety had fallen by the figures above, disability scores went from 30.2 to 5.1, the level of no disability, and suicidal thinking fell from 47% of the group to 7%. Concentration, memory and processing improved. There were no heart problems. A 2026 follow-up with MRI found their brains measured younger after the session than before.

Questions from Louisiana

What people askbefore they call.

Is iboga legal in Louisiana?

Iboga and ibogaine remain Schedule I under federal law. Louisiana SB 43 creates a Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy Initiative covering ibogaine at the Department of Health; effective 2026-08-01. Vital Kauaʻi holds its ceremonies on Kauaʻi within a protected religious context as a legally established church, and welcomes Louisiana residents. We are glad to speak with you directly about our legal structure.

How do Louisiana residents take part?

The journey is thirteen weeks. Six weeks of preparation happen from home in Louisiana: a medical consultation, somatic and nervous-system preparation, and weekly guidance through the member portal. Then one week on Kauaʻi, with two nights in ceremony. Then six weeks of integration back home, with weekly one-on-one calls.

Why the whole root instead of a clinic's isolated compound?

Most providers use a single isolated alkaloid. We work with the whole root, honoring the ancient wisdom in which this plant has been used for millennia, titrated slowly and in continuous dialogue with your body. The full plant carries an intelligence that no single compound can replicate.

Is it safe?

The root has an excellent safety record. The rare serious risks are primarily cardiac, and are most closely associated with the isolated and concentrated alkaloid. We seek to meet the clinical standard of care wherever we can: a medical consultation and health review with our medical provider and medical clearance before ceremony, an EKG on-island before your first ceremony, and our medical provider present overnight at every ceremony.

Who is this for?

Leaders, creators, and people already on a spiritual path who are ready to live their fullest expression, with more clarity, freedom, capacity, and purpose. We screen carefully and honestly. If it is right for you, we will know together.
